D#B’s Backup&Recovery Notes

Posted by Dark#Basics

When I was preforming my internship at the Don Bosco College in Zwijnaarde, Belgium one of my tasks was to search, test and implement backup and recovery methods for different servers and server roles. These methods contained manual and automated procedures for different Windows Server roles but also the backup and recovery of switch configurations, XenServer metadata and XenServer VM's. Additionally I automated the whole process through Batch/Bash/Python and Task Scheduler/Cron.

I'll be exchanging my experience regarding these backup and recovery procedures that I made in the D#B's Backup&Recovery Notes here at Dark Developments.

Welcome to Dark Developments

Welcome to Dark Developments!

Some users may remember us from the old days. Under the heading of NabZ, Dark Developments was one of the elite forums filled with enthusiastic, diverse and skilled members. It had it's share of drama, which, after 3 glorious years lead to the inevitable closing of its doors. That Dark Developments was missed by many, but never more so than by the staff who ran it.

There was an attempt to revive the old site, however this failed, due to the lack of time, patience and experience of the users who attempted to resurrect it, underestimating the hurricane of issues they would have to endure. However this just reinforced the love and passion for the old and once great Dark Developments, which was still very much alive in the hearts of it's old staff.

The domain, lost to the spammers and advertisers of the internet, we could not recover. (If anyone is able/willing to do this for us please send a PM to a member of the staff) However, alternate tld's where still available. After long discussions and hard choices, the old staff along with some key members purchased this domain.

We've been working long and hard, setting up systems, content and perfecting every aspect of the new site. Nothing less than perfection being accepted, no detail or triviality overlooked. We are proud to present to the world, the brand new site... and say welcome back to…

The Beginning

Posted by Dark#Basics

As from today I'm glad to announce that we have a new, fresh version of DarkDevelopments. As some of you might know, DarkDevelopments also colloquially known as DD was a forum that supported and helped people when they had questions regarding security, programming, networking, etc... But after almost 3 years DD closed its doors and disappeared.

After a brief conversation with my good friend Ollie, that I first met when I was administrator at DarkDevelopments, I decided that DD needed to come back to life and feed the community once again.

This blog will contain the experiences of all the DD-administrators regarding IT or any other aspect that they want to tell the community. At this time we are trying to set-up the forums where we will provide support, publish tools, post snippets, distribute tutorials, summaries,...

It's glad to be back!
