WIN7 - Delete Offline Files Cache a.k.a CSC
In Windows 7 it isn't possible to delete the Offline Files Cache through the GUI. This can be handy in some troubleshooting situations when the cache isn't updated or Offline Files just needs to be re-enabled. The only way to delete the CSC is by writing a Registry Key.

Using the GUI

  • Open Registry editor (Execute Regedit from Run window)
  • Go to the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Csc\Parameters
  • If Parameters does not exist under CSC create a new node with that name.
  • In the Parameters node create a new registry value with the name FormatDatabase of type REG_DWORD (i.e DWord 32-bit value)
  • Set the registry value to 1.
  • Reboot the machine

Using CLI

We can do the above steps from command line too. For this you just need to run the below command from elevated administrator command prompt.

Select All Code:
reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Csc\Parameters /v FormatDatabase /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
